Important announcement: Change in translated series’

So to make a long story short: My trial day at the potential workplace went well and thus I am starting from tomorrow onwards as full-time employee in sales.

Now what does that mean for my translations? I had considered the possibility of this happening beforehand already and thus my decision is actually set in stone. Basically I had two options, either decrease the release pace or drop one series to free up time. I opted for latter.

Thus, as of today, Yomigaeri no Maou is abandoned for the time being unless I find myself with plenty time again (in other words unemployed, which I’d like to avoid). Any translator who wishes to take up this series, is free to do so and can continue from where I left off.

Now, some will ask why it is Yomigaeri no Maou and not some other series. There are a few reasons, which I shall list here:

  • The pace of the story is too slow for my liking. Just to give you a rough idea: The Fighting Tournament starts at chapter 36 and continues for over 20 chapters. In other words, it would take further 8 weeks to reach the Tournament arc filled with trivial boring chapters about useless chit-chat. I don’t doubt that Yomigaeri no Maou is an interesting story, but it needs a dedicated translator who can release chapters every 1,2,3 days to actually really get on with the story. Considering that Yomigaeri no Maou only released  1 Light Novel volume even though it already has 235+ web chapters, speaks for me not being the only one sharing this opinion about the story.
  • The writing style of the author is uselessly complicated and annoying. Translating that series really takes more effort than another series of the same length just because the author loves to construct stupidly long and complicated sentence structures. Not even mentioning the fact, that his writing style appears rather plain to me as in richness of vocabulary and expressions which also means that I am forced to beef up the content myself to not make it an enjoyable read. (Of course this might also be due to the lack of my skill as translator though).
  • The MC is too plain. Well he is an ex-Maou but gets pushed around by his surroundings like a plush toy. Not even sure what I should say about such a MC except that he has no real character in my opinion and if he has, it is a softie character which I dislike as MCs.

There are a few other points I am unhappy about with this series’ but unlike my other series’ these are they key points why my choice fell onto Yomigaeri no Maou.

Now as for the other series: Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! will stay on the Sunday slot (the only time I have to translate such frigging long chapters is over the weekend), Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de will move up to Thursday/Friday (depending on my time after work in the week) and Kuro no Shoukanshi will move to Tuesday.

As my days at work are fairly long, I have only little time after work to translate. Today I came back home late and have been translating Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! Chapter 30 for 4 hours straight (still not done with it though *sobs*). Thus there might be some adjustments to the schedule depending on how my daily routine pans out in the end.

Still, don’t be worried. I don’t plan on dropping the other 3 series as I like them too much to leave them sink in the quagmire of oblivion!

Well, I hope the readers of Yomigaeri no Maou can understand my decision, even if it may be hard for them to accept it.

As for Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! Chapter 30, I will try to finish the last 20% tomorrow. Sorry for that delay but nothing I can do about it. My brain actually hurts from all the translation for that chapter! xD

That’s all of my ramblings,

Shasu

Announcement and Recruitment

Good evening,

First off a little announcement from my side:

My company decided to downsize the number of people they employ and as such someone like me, with a temporary contract, naturally got cut quite fast. While I’d love to live the life of a NEET and just live from translating, that won’t be possible, unfortunately (considering the current donations, it amounts to an hourly wage of approx. 2 cents, so yea, not happening).

Thus I am looking for a new job and while most of you probably don’t care about that part, it will still affect the schedule once I find one. Next weeks schedule should be fine as is but after that it might change. Just take this as heads up, so you people are not surprised if the releases slow down or a series gets cut. I will keep you up to date. And no, I don’t plan on stopping to translate.

Now as for the recruitment:

I am looking for editor(s): I don’t judge my English language skills as that horrific (of course I might be wrong though), so the stuff I translate doesn’t need a complete overhaul to make it readable. Thus I am rather looking for someone with a rich language who can make the entire story flow more diverse and fluent without losing the intention of the author.

Required would be:

  • Native language skills
  • Age-wise: 20+
  • Skype available (highly recommended)
  • Availability – must not be online every day but often enough to be reachable on short term
  • Reliability – I am working on a schedule and do try to keep it, so not turning up for a week without prior notice and such, is a no go.
  • Previous experience as editor is not necessary (would be nice of course).

If you feel up to the challenge, please send me a mail to [email protected]. Ideally with a little introduction and the information on which series you want to work (If you are only interested in one series, please still state one alternative series you would be willing to work on). Available series are only those 4 I am translating, obviously. Kuro no Shoukanshi has lower priority as it is a novel written rather simply.

Of course translators and TLCs are always welcome, but who am I kidding anyway. xD

Regards,

Shasu-tan

Hachi-nan: Short update

In case of those wondering what’s going on with Hachi-nan I thought I would provide a bit information:

First off, against my expectations it seems like the chapters of the web novel got the length of a regular light novel chapter (In this case 3 times the length of an Yomigaeri no Maou chapters or in other words about 50k characters). Thus I will move the scheduling for this series from Saturday to Sunday. Current status of translation is at 40%.

I will try to release Chapter 26 on Saturday at 8 PM GMT but as mentioned above, no promises there.

Now some may be surprised: “Chapter 26, huh? That was translated already!”

Well, the previous translators counted the 5 Interludes as regular chapters. Thus I will fix the numerical order to the default way of numbering for web novel translations as the author didn’t count the interludes as chapters neither.

Same as Nidoume no Jinsei wo Sekai de (check out the Table of Contents for reference) I will copy the previous chapters with the correct numbering to this blog. This might be non-standard method of handling things, but I think that it is acceptable considering the fact that most of the chapters are on an inactive blog anyway and it should increase readability for those who want to catch up with the series.

Lastly, the naming of locations and persons will change a bit with the upcoming chapter, so be sure to read the notes at the beginning of the chapter.

Greetings,

Shasu

Recruitment

Heyas folks,

I am looking for a TLC (Translation Checker). Requirements would be sufficient knowledge of the Japanese language to understand difficult sentence structures. There is no nitpicking required, just checking whether the meaning intended by the author is transmitted correctly.

Thus the better your language knowledge, the easier it would be to just cross check the translation. Most likely a job of 20 – 40 minutes depending on chapter length, I would assume.

Of course translators are always welcome too. If you are one of those looking for a place to publish your works, just contact me.

And before anyone asks, no, I am not looking for any editors currently. 🙂

Greetingss,

Shasu

Hachi-nan

Heyas folks,

to avoid confusion and multiple claims I am posting this as a blog message.

The translator who was working on Hachi-nan put the series on hold for an undefined time. See here in the comments.

Since this is a project I wanted to do before anyway, I am going to pick up the series which will complete my weekly line up.

In case some of you are worried that I am overloading myself:

  • Kuro no Shoukan Samurai: time required per chapter: 3-5 hours (half day)
  • Nidoume no Jinsei wo Sekai de: time required per chapter: 7-9 hours (1 day)
  • Yomigaeri no Maou: time required per chapter: 14-18 hours (2 days)

Thus leaving me with quite a bit of leeway not including increase of speed as proficiency goes up with time.

As for exact release day and changes in entire schedule I will keep you up to date as soon as I got a feeling how the translation of Hachi-nan goes.

I will start from Chapter 31 after I finished Yomigaeri no Maou Chapter 24 (40% currently).

Over and out,

Shasu

New Series and Miscellaneous

Well one day has passed and the result of the poll is pretty much clearly for Kuro no Shoukan Samurai. Even waiting any longer wouldn’t change that result. Thus I will go with that one. 🙂

I removed the teaser category already and replaced it with the correct category reflecting the result. As I posted in the previous blog message the next chapter of  Kuro no Shoukan Samurai will be very likely tomorrow. Since the chapters are short up until now translation goes pretty fast for those. And yes, I decided to go with the Romaji version of the title to keep in line with the other 2 series and to portrait it being a Japanese novel.

As for other site changes, I added a donation button in the side menu. Feel free to use it or to ignore it. In case you do decide to donate, I shall take it as token of gratitude towards the time invested into translating the novels. However, donations have no influence on my releases, schedules or anything else at all (otherwise I would have called it commission instead of donation 😉 ).

Lastly, for those loving to know the current state of ongoing translations: Nidoume no Jinsei wo Sekai de Chapter 7 is translated and edited. I set it to automatically release on 23d June at 8 pm GMT. And no, I will not release it earlier because it is done already. I plan to stockpile some chapters so I have a bit more leeway later on down the road for either really long chapters or a side project and of course such nasty things such as RL.

Greetings,

Shasu

A question to all of you!

Heyas folks,

So today I wanted to get going translating my third series choice World Teacher which is another series being stalled for eternity by chapter releases in the 2-3 months range. But look there, the translator over there posted a week ago he is almost done with the next chapter. Unfortunately his PC froze a day ago though, taking part of his translation with it. But well .. he should be releasing soon … I think? … I hope?

Thus I gave up on that idea and checked out the alternative: Hachi-nan. Another great series struck by disappearing translators and/or slowpokes. And guess what … the translator over there announced a day or 2 ago he was working on the next chapter but his PC got blue screened and took his draft of the chapter with it.

Well, yea … right … I know … PCs do happen to freeze regularly. Even while typing this text I had about 3 reboots going … NOT!

Anyways, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place as I didn’t know what to do. Screw them and translate whatever I feel like? Wait and see what happens next? Or just pick a different series?

And then I was enlightened … if you can’t decide  … JUST ASK YOUR READERS!

And so here we are. I offer thee four choices to pick from:

  • World Teacher: I would take it up from Chapter 16 as supposedly chapter 15 will be released soon. You can check the series here.
  • Hachi-nan: I would just translate away from Chapter 31 ignoring whatever the other Translator claims to have done or not. Have a lookie here.
  • Seiju no Kuni no Kinju Tsukai: That series is stalled currently as the translation team stopped all life signs. Furthermore the series itsself is finished at 101 chapters since May this year. Well check it out here.
  • Black Summoner: A series which has no translator at all yet. It seemed rather interesting and it was ranked highly on Sousetska so I just translated the Synopsis and Chapter 1 of the series so you can have a look. Check out Chapter 1 here.

After deciding, please cast your vote below. The poll will run for 1 day. Comments are welcome.

Oh another note I forgot to mention:
Even if Black Summoner is chosen as series, I will still release Chapter 2 towards Sunday/Monday as promised for the next release date. Treat Chapter 1 as one off Teaser to help on the series selection. ^^

Welcome to Infinite Novel Translations

Hello everyone,

my name is Shasu (internet handle) and I am a 32-year old german otaku. ^^

I have been following the japanese anime/manga scene for approximately 10 years and got stuck to reading novels, be it web or light versions, for about 2 years now.

As an avid reader I have finished most of the novels a while ago and am stuck to waiting for releases to be dished out to satisfy my craving.

There are many novels I follow so I will pass on going into details though. 😉

I am pretty sure many of you are in a similiar situation as I am, thus I decided to pick up the “pen” and help with translating novels that are left aside, released only once every few months or similiar.

I do plan to pick up about 3 series that I rate very highly. Which ones you shall see in the coming days/week.

Please also note, that my translations are machine translations. I will do my best to keep the meaning as close as possible to the intended one but MTL is not that easy. Thus I am learning Japanese on the side to help me with reading and comprehension but this will take a while to bear any reasonable fruits. 😉

Well, I hope we do get along in the future and happy reading from my side,

Shasu
