Important announcement: Change in translated series’

So to make a long story short: My trial day at the potential workplace went well and thus I am starting from tomorrow onwards as full-time employee in sales.

Now what does that mean for my translations? I had considered the possibility of this happening beforehand already and thus my decision is actually set in stone. Basically I had two options, either decrease the release pace or drop one series to free up time. I opted for latter.

Thus, as of today, Yomigaeri no Maou is abandoned for the time being unless I find myself with plenty time again (in other words unemployed, which I’d like to avoid). Any translator who wishes to take up this series, is free to do so and can continue from where I left off.

Now, some will ask why it is Yomigaeri no Maou and not some other series. There are a few reasons, which I shall list here:

  • The pace of the story is too slow for my liking. Just to give you a rough idea: The Fighting Tournament starts at chapter 36 and continues for over 20 chapters. In other words, it would take further 8 weeks to reach the Tournament arc filled with trivial boring chapters about useless chit-chat. I don’t doubt that Yomigaeri no Maou is an interesting story, but it needs a dedicated translator who can release chapters every 1,2,3 days to actually really get on with the story. Considering that Yomigaeri no Maou only released  1 Light Novel volume even though it already has 235+ web chapters, speaks for me not being the only one sharing this opinion about the story.
  • The writing style of the author is uselessly complicated and annoying. Translating that series really takes more effort than another series of the same length just because the author loves to construct stupidly long and complicated sentence structures. Not even mentioning the fact, that his writing style appears rather plain to me as in richness of vocabulary and expressions which also means that I am forced to beef up the content myself to not make it an enjoyable read. (Of course this might also be due to the lack of my skill as translator though).
  • The MC is too plain. Well he is an ex-Maou but gets pushed around by his surroundings like a plush toy. Not even sure what I should say about such a MC except that he has no real character in my opinion and if he has, it is a softie character which I dislike as MCs.

There are a few other points I am unhappy about with this series’ but unlike my other series’ these are they key points why my choice fell onto Yomigaeri no Maou.

Now as for the other series: Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! will stay on the Sunday slot (the only time I have to translate such frigging long chapters is over the weekend), Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de will move up to Thursday/Friday (depending on my time after work in the week) and Kuro no Shoukanshi will move to Tuesday.

As my days at work are fairly long, I have only little time after work to translate. Today I came back home late and have been translating Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! Chapter 30 for 4 hours straight (still not done with it though *sobs*). Thus there might be some adjustments to the schedule depending on how my daily routine pans out in the end.

Still, don’t be worried. I don’t plan on dropping the other 3 series as I like them too much to leave them sink in the quagmire of oblivion!

Well, I hope the readers of Yomigaeri no Maou can understand my decision, even if it may be hard for them to accept it.

As for Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! Chapter 30, I will try to finish the last 20% tomorrow. Sorry for that delay but nothing I can do about it. My brain actually hurts from all the translation for that chapter! xD

That’s all of my ramblings,

Shasu

For the reasons of dropping Yomigaeri no Maou is reasonable and makes senses.

  7. Aww boourns

  8. 3 series should be good enough. Considering the fact that you translate a whole chapter or more for each series a week, you really work too hard.

  9. Please don’t worry about it – thanks for letting us know your decision and (proper) reasons. Keep up the good work !!

  10. Don’t worry and good luck on your new job

  11. first off’gratz over employment, take your time i’ dont to read google machine trans its too painful i prefer slow but steady pace than beingnannoyed by google trans, peace out.

Take care of your health, and good luck in the new job.

  13. Congratz on the new job!

Your reasoning for Maou is absolutely understandable… to be honest, I myself had quite lost the interest in he series after the timeskip. It’s kinda funny, things usually get more interesting after a timeskip, but for this story, things kinda fizzled out after 🙁

  14. I feel kinda bad for YnM, but there’s nothing that can be done. Good luck! Hope you win the lottery!

  15. Congrats on your new work!

  21. at least my beloved hachinan is still sacred

  22. Congratulations on the job, and you made the right call in cutting Maou to keep your sanity. It was, by far, the weakest link in the web site. At least Hachinan fought a fukking Bone Dragon!

  23. radical dreamer

thx for all the TL work u done so far.I agree with everyone about YnM.its definitely….well…meh.
all the best with your new job. 🙂

  24. Pingback: Other dude dropping Yomigaeri no Maou. Also, “translation when?”? Well… | お兄ちゃん、やめてぇ!

    • Lamo yeah. When I read his reasons for dropping it the first thing I thought of was how familiar they sounded. Tbh even as a reader I thought it was a bit slow paced.

  25. All the best with your new job. Don’t worry about the translation, real life is more important.

  26. this novel has been a waste of time since chapter 10

  27. Forgot to comment here. Congrats on your new job in sales. I believe this story is good but only if chapters are released frequently because as you said this story moves slow and a lot of useless sh** that annoys me sometimes…that MC as well but the story has potential, it just needs a bit more time.

Thanks for letting us know by the way.

  28. I am just a normal human being

Thank you for your hard work. My opinion about Yomi is the same as you, i already stop to read it around chapter 18 if i am not wrong. The mc lack personality for a demon king. So yeah, that disappoint me.

  29. Its a shame… but real life… and i agree… MC was a plush toy…
Well, you are doing better than I am, and best of luck! You deserve it.

  30. Congrats about the job!! Also i agree with you about the slow pace of YnM. There is no proper character development and the story though has a nice plot and setting and all ……but It is not properly utilised.

  31. Congrats for the job.

Sucks that you are dropping it, but can’t say i don’t understand your reasons for doing so.

Keep being awesome, and i hope you can manage to keep up as many projects as you are.

  32. Thank god Hachinan wasn’t dropped instead!
Had Stopped reading yomigaeri when it was still translated by sheeprabbit cause of slow updates.
    Hachinan is more interesting too.

well, good luck on your job, and more hachinan pls!

  33. Too bad about YnM but thanks for your effort till now. Other series are average at best unfortunately. Oh well, whatever. Good luck with your job.

  34. good luck with your work :D. Though I’m still quite disappointed that it has to be Yomigaeri no Maou lol.

  35. oh so thats the reason… well congratz

  36. I completely understand.

The premise sounds great, but the main character sounds as dull as a doorknob. I mean, when you are the reincarnation of a demon king himself, I expect a certain level of badassery just by association. Instead…

    Anyways, congratulations on the job.

  37. Congrats on your jobby-job.
