Recruitment: Editors

Heyas folks,

somehow I feel it hasn’t been long since I was looking for new editors. But somehow the number of editors in our group has decreased instead of increasing. I wonder whether I am this difficult to deal with? Oh well, time for new challengers then, I guess. Fufufu

I also changed the requirements a bit this time. Or rather I changed the entire process as well. And yes, it’s as the title says, I am looking for editors and not one editor.

Let’s plunge into what I am looking for:

  • Availability – In the week: Evening European time or afternoon American time. Available to be contacted on weekend.
  • Language skills: Native. I am sincerely looking for only Britons or Americans/Canadians. Of course that includes natives living in another country. A rich vocabulary is very desirable as your task won’t involve simple grammar/spelling checks.
  • Skype is a MUST – All communication goes through that.
  • Reliability – If you say you will do something, you are expected to do so. Of course everyone got RL stuff going on, but the least to be expected is a heads up in that case.

Well yea, I removed the age restriction. I guess even an ossan group has to follow the trend!

Now as for the process:

If you are interested in joining our group as editor, please edit the current chapter 25 of Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou!

Feel free to send in the edited chapter to [email protected] as Libre Office Document or if that isn’t available as Google Document link. Time limit is one week from now aka until Monday the 6th June 11:59 pm GMT. We will check the sent in edits and then contact you, no matter whether it is a fail or a success. Feel free to ask questions via mail, albeit pointless questions will be ignored.

One advice: It helps to check the current translations and the glossary.

I am looking forward to your application as editor! Don’t be shy and help the novel community to flourish! ^^

Greetings,

Shasu

Recruitment: Editor

Heyas everyone,

last time I posted it as part of a Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! chapter release but it somehow seems to either have gone under or there was barely anyone interested to commit to this community offering their help as editor. I hope it is the former as I would weep if it was the latter. XD

I am looking for one or two more editor(s) for our team of old men. As I am currently translating three series’ with an average of 2 chapters per week, I intend to hire some additional help. As we are all old men I am looking for a female masc … err no, an editor who can help out with the 3 series concerned.

What is required of you:

  • Availability – In the week: Evening European time or afternoon American time. Available to be contacted on weekend.
  • Language skills: Native. I am sincerely looking for only Britains or Americans/Canadians. Of course that includes natives living in another country. A rich vocabulary is very desirable as your task won’t involve simple grammar/spelling checks.
  • Age – Preferably 25+. Why? Because I think those have already settled in life and thus can plan their schedule more steadily for a long time.
  • Skype is a MUST – All communication goes through that.
  • Reliability – If you say you will do something, you are expected to do so. Of course everyone got RL stuff going on, but the least to be expected is a heads up in that case.
  • Experience as an editor is a plus but optional.

If you think you can live with these conditions and are willing to devote time and effort into editing a translated novel, then you are welcome to send your applications to [email protected]. Though I think it isn’t necessary to mention, but I will say it anyway, I will only look at proper applications.

Greetings,

Shasu

Back in business

Heyas folks,

I am sorry for not giving you a notice for a while. Unfortunately I was hospitalized, so there was no chance to do so either way.

I had some cruel state of influenza (or whatever it is called in English), thus I was bedridden with a fever up to 40°C.  Since it didn’t go down at all even after taking an extended rest they transferred me to a hospital and took several tests. Seems it was some kind of bacterial infection  and thus they stuffed me full of antibiotics and had me rest for several days.

Thus I still feel quite sluggish as those drugs are still within me, but I am back now more or less.

I will finish up the next Nidoume chapter as I had already started translating it but don’t expect me to get it done quickly (sometimes this weekend should be possible as there isn’t overly much left to translate). I hope you can understand that settling things with work takes priority, after that I will get back on the Hachinan case.

Once again, I am sorry for the delays but this one was out of my hands.

Regards,

Shasu

Info-Update regarding Delay

Heyas folks,

sorry for not getting back earlier regarding the delay for the translations. Before anyone asks, no I don’t intend to drop translation of Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de and Hachinan tte, sore wa nai desshou! I have already started on the next Hachinan chapter and got it 30ish% down the line, so no worries there.

Unfortunately though I didn’t have much time the last two weekends (one was for company’s 20th anniversary and its after-effects and another for social obligations and errands).  Although I’d love to get things done during the week, it is mostly impossible for me to translate long (Hachinan) and difficult (Nidoume) chapters as I am working basically from 7 am to 7 pm everyday. After such long and busy work days my motivation to sit down and translate stuff is usually going towards bottom of the pit.

I plan to finish chapter chapter 34 of Hachinan towards the weekend and if it remains as free regarding weekend plans as it is at the moment, I might add the following Interlude to the list (both are fairly long so don’t get your hope too high up for a double release). Nidoume will follow up the week after.

Just a short update

Regards,

Shasu

Info: Finally back

Heyas everyone,

to make a long story short: My PC didn’t feel like going on any more and ordered the power supply to kill my MB and and SSD HD with a nice voltage spike. I was amused .. not … not at all, staring at a black screen is kind of not very fun. So I took the thing Monday last week to the PC shop, got it checked (diagnostic see above) and got it back on Saturday with the necessary new parts (gotta love unexpected expenses). On the bright side I guess I had some time to read a few good fantasy books after a long time once again (if anyone needs a good recommendation: Richard Schwartz “Secret of Askir” [if it’s available in English] is a very very decent series).

After reinstalling all the stuff Saturday evening and yesterday, I didn’t feel like bothering with translation or anything as I was kind of not in the mental state to bother with anything that would mean work.

Well now is a new week with a half new PC, so I am back in business after mentally cooling down a bit. I managed to get Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de to 80% before all went downhill (luckily my storage HD wasn’t affected, can’t beat a good ole magnet stripes HDD I guess), so I will see if I can finish the remaining 20% within the week, else you will get the release on Friday. I will afterwards work on releasing the next chapter of Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! and one of the following interludes as compensation for the downtime (even if it wasn’t something I really caused myself).

Over ‘n out,

Shasu

Release Info: Delay this weekend

Heyas folks,

RL was heavily interfering with its claims for social connections care-taking this weekend, so my translating had to take a back-seat.

I will try to release the chapters for Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de and Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! over the week but please don’t expect miracles with my work schedule being as busy as it already is.

Sorry for the delay, but not much I could do about it this time around as it was slightly unexpected for me as well.

Greetings,

Shasu

License issues: Update

Heyas folks,

as I told you in a previous post, I was contacted by a law attorney regarding the translation of Kuro no Shoukanshi and Yomigaeri no Maou.

As this law attorney represents the company Overlap, they asked me to heed their legal notice until August, 10th or in other words tomorrow.

I used last week to check on the legal situation concerning translation of publicly published web novels and on further examination (reading law text can really hurt your brain) I deemed the removal of the content unavoidable.

I tried contacting the author and the attorney in order to get some kind of statement or to overturn the situation but I got nil response. In order to not be dragged into some kind of lawsuit due to copyright infringement, I don’t see any other possibility as the one mentioned above.

I know many of you will be unhappy with this decision but I prefer preserving this blog and shield myself from having to pay money over continuing the translation of a web novel.

As for the extra chapter I owe you guys, I haven’t forgotten about it and will take care of that once things have calmed down a bit (although naturally it won’t be hosted on this blog).

The already existing content will be removed before the next release at 10 PM GMT. Of course I won’t discourage anyone to pick up either of those series as you are all free to do as you like. ^^

As for the future plans, I got an idea or two, but you will have to wait for another update until a final decision has been set. 😉

With greetings,

Shasu

Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! – Chapter 30: Erich-nii-san’s marriage

Good evening folks,

once again, sorry for the two days delay. Well, at least you get this time a fair share to read on the bright side. 🙂

I will use this post to announce a few things:

First and foremost: Please welcome Kruncs as new editor for Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! He will be the one suffering through all my little slip ups in those eternally long chapters of Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou! so I am not sure he is aware what he signed up for, but shhh! 😉

Furthermore I got another editor for that series on board who will be announced in due time. As I decided to have the editor team to look over older chapters of the previous translators to make the reading of those more enjoyable, I am still looking for 1 or 2 more editors (there’s a lot of work to do there after all).

If you are interested to work on this series, Hachinan tte, sore wa nai deshou!, please send me a proper introduction (you can look up my requirements here). Also, I’d like to stress p-r-o-p-e-r introduction! That doesn’t include 2 liners saying “I want to edit …., gimme!” 😉

Second would be a change in release time: As I get home now at 5 PM GMT and have to go sleep latest at 11 pm GMT my time window for translation is kinda small in the week. But even worse would be cutting it with an 8 PM GMT release. Thus the releases will now move to 10 PM GMT so that I have time to use the time after coming home to translate some without interruption.

Furthermore, since I won’t have that much time to translate in the evening, I will have to daily translate a portion of bigger chapters. So I decided to move Nidoume no Jinsei wo Isekai de to Friday with a strong tendency towards Saturday as release day. Luckily Kuro no Shoukanshi should be doable a chapter a day, if push comes to shove, so there’s no need to worry on that front (Chapter 12 will be released tomorrow at 10 PM GMT). 🙂

Well, I think I have said, what should be said …. thus … enjoy!

Greetings,

Shasu-san
